On the evening of the 6 September the crews and their Skippers will meet at Port Solent to board their comfortably furnished SUNFAST 37 yacht and enjoy the ‘Meet-the-Crews’ barbecue before spending a night onboard.
Day 1: The crews of seven (including Skipper) will face the challenge of a race around the Isle of Wight, scene of the inaugural America’s Cup in 1851, before berthing in Cowes for a Gala Evening and overnight.
Day 2: The second day includes two exhilarating inshore races before returning to Port Solent for the VIP Champagne Prize-giving and High Tea.
In addition to the competition for overall positions and the Cowes International Cup trophy:
We are very keen to encourage more women to experience yacht racing, especially at a time when Dame Ellen MacArthur is demonstrating how well they can compete on equal terms.
We are therefore running a ‘Leading Lady’ competition, which will include yachtswomen taking part in mixed crews.
A ‘Plate’ competition will be held on the second day – so that first day retirees/late finishers can continue to enjoy the racing and gain additional experience.
